Brett A. Murray is the Founder and CEO of Odin Biogas, a ClimateTech company focused on advancing practical, revenue-driven sustainability solutions across the American heartland. His work reflects a long-standing commitment to building businesses that create both economic value and environmental progress.
Prior to founding Odin Biogas, Brett served as President and Chief Operating Officer of MERCO USA LLC, where he played a key role in driving strategy, operations, and growth. At the same time, he also served as CEO of Hydroil Solutions, a company focused on improving commercial slurry frac injection systems in the oilfield sector.
Earlier in his career, Brett served as a Board Member, Chief Operating Officer, and Executive Vice President of Virtus Oil and Gas Corporation from May 2014 through May 2020. During that period, he helped lead the acquisition of Tidewater Oil and Gas assets out of bankruptcy and assembled a high-level team of engineers, geologists, landmen, and technology professionals to reposition the business for growth. His leadership at Virtus Oil and Gas Corporationplaced him alongside prominent figures in both business and public service, including former Nevada Governor and Congressman Jim Gibbons.
Before Virtus Oil and Gas Corporation, Brett was part of the Senior Management Team at Gunnison Energy Corporation, an Oxbow company owned by William Koch. There, he helped oversee more than 150,000 net acres along with multiple midstream facilities, contributing to the company’s operational scale and long-term strategic direction.
Brett also held a key role at Anschutz Exploration Corporation, the private energy company led by Phil Anschutz. While there, he helped lead the divestiture of the company’s Southern Bakken assets to Occidental Petroleum in a transaction valued at approximately $1.4 billion, followed by the successful $114 million sale of Northern Bakken properties to Crescent Point Energy. These transactions underscored his strength in negotiation, deal execution, and strategic asset positioning.
At Sundance Energy, Inc., then a small Australian-listed company, Brett played a central role in a period of major transformation. During his time there, the company grew from a modest debt-backed position into a business that reached a market capitalization of $492 million USD in 2008. His performance led to his promotion to Land Manager at just 27 years old, an early sign of the leadership trajectory that would define his career.
Earlier still, at Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, Brett worked as a Company Landman in the DJ Basin, where he focused on resolving curative and title-related challenges ahead of drilling. The role helped sharpen the practical, detail-oriented problem-solving skills that became a hallmark of his work in the energy sector.
Over the course of 22+ years in the energy business, including 15+ years in senior management, Brett has built a reputation for combining operational discipline, transactional experience, and entrepreneurial vision. Through his private company and advisory work, he has been involved in a wide range of strategic transactions and business initiatives across the industry.
In addition to his executive leadership roles, Brett has served as a Senior Advisor to Juniper Capital and Greehey & Co., providing counsel on strategy, transactions, and value creation. He has also consulted for companies including Extraction Oil & Gas and Matador Resources, bringing a balanced approach that recognizes both financial performance and responsible resource development.
